Diving Deep is an AR App developed with Unity, aiming to provide an experience of being a diver in the flooded future. This filter assumes that the world is submerged by sea water and the remains of human civilization are surrounded by marine life. Users are able to wear a sci-fi style helmet through the front camera, and explore the mixed reality ocean scene with different sea creatures at different depth through the rear camera. This project is to convey a post-human feeling through AR technology and explore new interactive ways of AR experience.
Technical Description
3D modeling & Rendering effects
I created a 3d helmet with Maya, and used shader effect to simulate glass, metal, sea water, and other different materials in Unity.
Develop: Different Species at different depth
Users can meet with different species by adjusting the value of depth(clicking the up and down icon) . For example in shallow water, there are sea bream and dolphins. When they are going deeper, they are able to sea fin whales. Jellyfish can be seen both in shallow and deep water. The specific values are based on the results of scientific research.
Demo Display
Front camera mode - Diver simulator
Users can experience a futuristic diving helmet through the front camera mode, with small fishes and jellyfish swimming by, as if they are immersed in an ocean environment.
Rear camera mode - Explore the ocean
Inspired by some ocean exploration video games, I assumed that the glass part of the helmet can be used as a transparent screen, allowing divers to scan fish and gain relevant information. In this way, players can scan for various fishes at different depths of ocean.
